Working at Today Studios

Our members come from a wide variety of creative disciplines and the workspace has been designed with their needs in mind.

We sat down with three of our members, Sally, Briton and James, and asked why Today Studios works for them.

What made you choose to work in a co-working space?

I need the social aspect. The alternative is working at home on my own, and I like having people to share a beer with after a long week.

Why Today Studios?

I’d been to see lots of co-working spaces and hadn’t even realised I was so opinionated about them, so many were cluttered and messy. I walked in here and it was clean and minimal. I felt like I could get my head down and be productive.

I’m often on set directing films with huge crews of people, and Today Studios is a quiet, serene place where I can concentrate. It’s a nice balance.

I’m a big believer in your environment affecting who you are, so everything being clean, minimal and not over-designed is important. I feel like I can just get on with what I need to do without being distracted by the space – there’s no astro turf or leopard print here!

You work in a duo with James, what made you choose a co-working space?

We wanted flexibility. Being able to set up and then scale our business without a long-term contract or commitment from the outset was important to us.

Why Today Studios?

We looked at various co-working spaces in London, all had different pros and cons. Today Studios has a clean and professional atmosphere, and it feels productive. Other spaces we’d rented previously were a little rough and ready. They didn’t feel as professional. All the facilities we need are here, like call rooms and printing.

We also like the fact that people feel like permanent tenants rather than hot-desking creatives who might be gone next week. It’s great for collaboration as well as socialising.

I think what sets Today Studios apart is that some co-working spaces are styled to feel like a hotel or look quite makeshift and temporary, but Today Studios feels like a permanent workplace. We’ve got our own space, it feels like our own office.

“Today Studios’ co-working space is great for collaboration as well as socialising.”

What made you choose to work in a co-working space?

When you’re setting up a small design business there are so many things you need to do, like registering your business, getting a telephone sorted and building a website. Then you have to dedicate time to finding a space and organising furniture, which is a massive undertaking.

If you’re growing quickly, a co-working space is the perfect solution because you can focus on the important thing – the work.

Why Today Studios?

Today Studios feels like a place I can invite clients to. I feel comfortable saying we work in a co-working space and I know that it won’t create a barrier between us and the client.
